Domperidone can be an extremely helpful medication. But, it has not been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As a result, most U.S. prescribing providers will not write a script or even discuss the use of domperidone for lactation. Without physician and pharmacist support parents may either choose not to use this beneficial medication or use it in an inappropriate or unsafe manner. The purpose of this course is to provide scientific and clinical information regarding the safe and effective use of domperidone for lactation.
- When used appropriately, domperidone is effective in significantly increasing milk production.
- Domperidone is a safe medication for most lactating parents and their babies. Side effects are not serious and usually temporary for lactating parents who do not have contraindications to using domperidone. The amount of domperidone entering the milk of a lactating parent is subclinical when domperidone is taken at recommended dosing.
- Domperidone is commonly used by lactating parents in developed countries throughout the world. Domperidone is a legal and often over-the-counter medication in most developed countries other than the United States. Lactating parents in the United States commonly obtain and use domperidone.
- Although no other medication or herb combines the safety and efficacy of domperidone for increasing lactation, alternatives to domperidone are available.

*Intended mother Paulina ordered domperidone from an online pharmacy not listed in DomHub. This is what she reported back to me...
"I just wanted to let you know that my domperidone finally arrived from [pharmacy name] and everything about it feels sketchy and not like something I want to take. As you may remember, they lost my order completely, then a personal email replied to my query about where the order was and said they would fulfill it. Now this shoddy package arrived 4 weeks late, hand written from Sri Lanka. I have no idea how these pills were stored or shipped, and whether the medications are still viable. I really don't want to use them."

A note from DomHub developer ALYSSA SCHNELL, IBCLC
"Hello! My name is Alyssa and I have been working as a board-certified lactation consultant since 2009. I have supported thousands of parents to induce lactation, relactate or increase milk production ... oftentimes with the help of domperidone.
And, personally I understand what it is like to make the decision whether or not to use domperidone. I am an adoptive mom who induced lactation using domperidone. At first, I was completely against the idea! I prefer not to use pharmaceutical medications and at the time I started inducing lactation I had not used a non over-the-counter pharmaceutical medication for 15 years. I was naturally very hesitant to use domperidone just like many of you.
The difference between my experience and yours is that I hope you will have so much more information to go on as you make a decision regarding domperidone for your greatest well-being and that of your precious little one."
